Seeking a passport to a new life
By Jennifer Pak
BBC News, Beijing

Many Chinese people were outraged by Gong Li's decision
One of China's most famous actresses has been accused of being unpatriotic after becoming a Singaporean citizen.
Some say Gong Li, star of the film Memoirs of a Geisha, has turned her back on her Chinese fans.
But the actress is not the only Chinese citizen to seek another country's passport.
They do it for convenience, to improve job prospects and as a safety net.
Despite China's increasing economic and political power, a Chinese passport is still seen as restrictive by many of its citizens.
Gong Li, whose husband is from Singapore, is just one of many film stars who have given up their Chinese passport.
According to news reports, Hong Kong film star Jet Li holds US citizenship.
And Zhang Ziyi, the star of kung fu movie Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, holds a Hong Kong residency card.
Gong Li's passport switch led to a commentary in the Beijing Youth Daily newspaper.
"We should think about why our laws, our system and cultural society have churned out so many of these so-called 'super citizens', people who live in China but their hearts are set on being a citizen in another country," it said.
'Still Chinese'
Kong Ting, who was born in China but is now a US citizen, is not surprised that Gong Li switched to a Singaporean passport.

I feel safer when I come back to China and I say certain things that the Chinese government doesn't like

Kong Ting
"A lot of times when Chinese do things it's for practical reasons, to make life easier and for more financial gain," she said
Ms Kong, 36, has lived in the US for 15 years, and became an American citizen two years ago to make travelling to other countries easier.
"I don't think getting a US citizenship makes me feel any less Chinese," she said.
With the exception of a few dozen south-east Asian and African countries, Chinese passport holders need to apply for visas in advance to go abroad which are sometimes difficult to get.
Most ordinary Chinese can only go abroad by joining tour groups, sometimes at very high costs.
Some tour companies reportedly charge up to 50,000 yuan ($7,300:£4,880) as a deposit to go to Japan.
This acts as a deterrent for people who are thinking of not returning to China after the trip.
Another reason Ms Kong wanted an American passport was for security reasons.
"Maybe I feel safer when I come back to China and I say certain things that the Chinese government doesn't like," she said. "They can't really hold it against me."
Tax reasons
Wu Hao, from Sichuan Province, has studied and worked in the US, and soon hopes to get his hands on a US passport.

A new passport can bring new freedoms for former Chinese citizens
He said as a student, getting a US passport was the ultimate goal in life.
"For my generation and older, we wanted a foreign passport so bad," said the 36-year-old.
"We grew up in an environment when China was not secure, when things changed so fast in China. Everyone just wanted to get out as soon as we could back in those days," he said.
Mr Wu moved back to China four years ago.
He will be eligible for an American passport in a few years time, but a small part of him hesitates about trading in his Chinese passport.
"I wonder if I really want to abandon my Chinese identity. I don't know," he added.
Mr Wu said many of his friends are much more practical about citizenship.
"I have a friend who recently gave up his American green card status in order not to pay US tax," said Mr Wu.
"A lot of Chinese friends I know who make a decent or relatively high salary in China, they're considering alternatives, trying to evade tax," he said.
Mr Wu said people who were outraged by Gong Li's switch to Singaporean citizenship are blowing it out of proportion.
"If they got the chance [to get a foreign passport] they would immediately jump on it."

children play-ground

This is a children playground at one of the shopping center here.
Materials are made of soft material so as not to harm even if fell down.Play ground set limitation to the height not higher than 42 inches. You are not allowed to play if ur kid is higher than that. And shoes are not supposed to wear inside the play ground area.
Security is around .But not always there
But they do listen to the parent or guardian's concern.
Camera is set on the sence. But still some people are taking advantages out of it.So what..
Rights are there for u
But has to enforce or come out to stand for it.
Laws protect if people abuse.
Ofcourse we are human-being and like to take advantage if we easily can.

creating an artificial SUN

It may not a surprise for u but it was for me since i heard artificial SUN was created in China last year,2007.Then i searched in the internet and found this article and hope some of u probably interested in it..I was even told that there could be more than one sun in the universe.
pls read this article..

Creating "artificial sun"

Scientists at the Federal Nuclear Centre in Sarov have succeeded in creating the most powerful magnetic field on Earth which allows to preserve energy equal to the Sun`s energy. World physicists are now working hard on the creation of the so-called artificial sun which will satisfy the planet`s demand in energy but only Russia has approached really close to making the discovery.

Area-24 is one of the secret testing grounds of the Federal Nuclear Centre. Something that still seems to be from the field of science fiction is being created far away from populated areas, among snow-covered forests. Under a crude awning is a system that has a magnetic field exceeding the magnetic field of the Earth 50m times. It is created using a powerful explosion. Viktor Selimer, director of scientific research centre of high energy density physics and directed flows of energy emission, All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics tells:
- It is an explosive, an explosive substance comprising the 50:50 ratio of TNT and hexagon. For example, we were selling the system which you can see here to the USA for the price of Mercedes cars of 600 series. So, it is not that simple. [Correspondent] The achievement of the Russian science is being guarded like the gold currency reserve, behind three perimeters of barbed wire. And the secret is made of bronze - only Russian scientists know how to wind correctly 4,800 coils on a reel in order to receive a superpowerful magnetic field. During the explosion, the space inside the reel contracts and its power increases several times over again. The test which lasts a fraction of a second is monitored in automatic mode. All the staff of the laboratory are taking cover in the building protected against the explosive wave by armour and concrete walls. The processes taking place inside the explosion are registered by lasers and powerful X-ray systems. Outside, the powerful magnetic flow knocks out of action any electric equipment, including the video camera which stops filming immediately after the explosion. The physical parameters of the centre of the Earth and neutron stars are being created in these field conditions where gas turns into metal and superconductors stop conducting electric current. This series of experiments is part of the work on a global project - the scientists of the whole world are now trying to switch on the artificial sun in laboratory conditions. It is the superpowerful magnetic field that may become an acid test of a kind for the Earth light. Researchers at the Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics are miles ahead of their competitors in this direction. Selimer: "According to our estimates, the system which will make possible the fusion ignition will cost approximately 100 times less than the nuclear system being built for these purposes in the United States of America but it will be more impressive than what you can see here because the initial current that we will be using at the start will be 1bn A. The power of the system will exceed the power of all electric power stations of Russia put together. But only for a very short time". [Correspondent] In the field of creating superpowerful magnetic fields Russia is 10 times ahead of its nearest competitors. The tests at the unique experimental area are taking place almost every day. After explosions not only these fragments and deep craters are left behind but also the profound knowledge of the matter, something that no textbook of physics has so far described.

In the first, a temporary Wal-Mart employee was trampled to death in a rush of thousands of early morning shoppers as he and other employees attempted to unlock the doors of a Long Island, New York, store at 5 a.m., police said.

In the second, unrelated incident, two men were shot dead in a Toys "R" Us in Palm Desert, California, after they argued in the store, police said.

The toy company and authorities said the California shootings had nothing to do with shopping on Black Friday, which is historically one of the year's busiest shopping days.

The Wal-Mart worker, whom authorities did not identify, was 34 and lived in Queens, said Nassau County police Detective Lt. Michael Fleming.

"This was utter chaos as these men tried to open the door this morning," Fleming said. Video Watch police describe the 'utter chaos' »

Video showed as many as a dozen people knocked to the floor in the stampede of people trying to get into the Wal-Mart store, Fleming said.

The employee was "stepped on by hundreds of people" as other workers attempted to fight their way through the crowd, Fleming said.

"Several minutes" passed before others were able to clear space around the man and attempt to render aid. Police arrived, and "as they were giving first aid, those police officers were also jostled and pushed," he said.

* Number of holiday jobs dwindling

"Shoppers ... were on a full-out run into the store," he said.

The crowd had begun forming outside the store by 9 p.m. Thursday, Fleming said. By 5 a.m. Friday, when the doors were unlocked, there were 2,000 or so shoppers, many of whom "surged forward," breaking the doors, he said.

The man was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Others in the crowd sustained minor injuries such as sprained ankles, Fleming said.

A 28-year-old pregnant woman was taken to a hospital, but "the baby is going to be OK," Fleming said. She was to be released later in the day, he said.

The California shootings occurred about 11:30 a.m. (2:30 p.m. ET), authorities said.

By the time police arrived, two men were dead from gunshot wounds, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez said. He said authorities are not seeking any other suspects.

Gutierrez said that the men did not appear to be store employees and that the dispute appeared unrelated to shopping.

"There was a confrontation inside of the store. But over a toy? I don't think that is accurate," he said.

Two handguns were found near the men's bodies, Gutierrez said.

In a written statement, Toys "R" Us spokeswoman Kathleen Waugh said the shooting appeared unrelated to the heavy shopping day.

"Our understanding is that this act seems to have been the result of a personal dispute between the individuals involved," she said.

She said company officials were "outraged" by the shooting and were working with authorities to find out what happened.

Gutierrez said no one else in the store was injured. Gutierrez said no one else in the store was injured. The store remained closed Friday afternoon but was expected to open as usual Saturday. Video Watch police confirm two people dead at a Toys 'R' Us store »

He said authorities would not release the men's names until their families have been notified.

Daniel Watson said he was at home with his children when his wife called from the Toys "R" Us store, where she and her mother were shopping.

"All I could hear was gunshots in the back," he said. "She said, 'They're in here shooting.' I told her to run and hide, stay down and hide."

He said his wife did just that, ducking under a clothes rack until the threat was over. Watson said neither woman was hurt.

Asked about the possibility of criminal charges in the Wal-Mart death, Fleming said he would not rule it out but noted that charges would be "very difficult," as it would be "almost impossible" to identify people in the crowd from the video, and those in the front of the crowd were pushed by those behind them.

Hundreds of people may have lined up in an orderly fashion but got caught up in the rush, he said.

Wal-Mart spokesman Kelly Cheeseman issued a statement saying, "We are saddened to report that a gentleman who was working for a temporary agency on our behalf died at the store and a few other customers were injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families at this difficult time."

The company is investigating the incident, the statement said.

Officers patrolling the shopping center overnight had had concerns about the size of the crowd, Fleming said, and had tried to get those in line better organized. Wal-Mart security officers were also present overnight, but he said he did not know how many.

"I don't know what it's worth to Wal-Mart or to any of these stores that run these sales events," Fleming said, "but it has become common knowledge that large crowds do gather on the Friday after Thanksgiving in response to these sales and in an effort to do their holiday shopping at the cheapest prices.

"I think it is incumbent upon the commercial establishments to recognize that this has the potential to occur at any store. Today, it happened to be Wal-Mart. It could have been any other store where hundreds and hundreds of people gather."

Asked whether the security had been adequate, Fleming said, "In light of the outcome, in hindsight, the answer is obviously no. ... This crowd was out of control."

tasting learning system here

FIG.building a binary code to BCD display circuit and logic probe.

I felt like i was so blessed to get this chance here some in when i got to learn electornic subject here.As i probabily told u b4.They use system like self service learning syatem. You would be provide by all means of facility to extend your knowledge.
You know what? They set up a system for students to withstand themself with those fascilities provied.Learning center provides computer access to all registered legalized software such as electronic circuit simulations multiSIMS,Mathlab etc..So you would have professor's lectures in the class room, homeworks, lab experiments, lab peports, biweekly quizzs, quartly exams and finally tutoring by available assigned professors at learning center for whatever u need.So you would be pretty occipied with your studies. It is almost impossible to be lazy if u really want it.
Printings, scanning, internet access are free for all students. But if u want to make copies,it will cost u 10 cents per page.A reference text book would be given with lab manual and lab kits.So all devices and solderless breadboard, wires,LEDS,ICs,switches and so on would be included.Text book would cost u like 180 bucks which include learning assistant software.
So...Hewwwwww.
I used to have a lot of leisure time but no more now since i had chosen to study further. Is it hard?No no..U misunderstand me.It is not hard stuff at all as long as u have time or you can manage you time.It will be difficult if u work full time and take 12 credits per semester.
Anyway let me conclude here,.System set up is pretty tight to observe to monitor on student's progress. Questions included for each lab experiment were so good.It is not possible to guess to get a right answer unless u read through chapter's reading assignments. They said they expect student's technical report writing skill, understandig theory behind each experiment and solving problems. And even more, they even expect new idea or design based on what students learnt from the subjects. So what do u think friends?Thats why they have electronic project competetions since high school level .Ny the way ,great advantage for students here are all text book are self-explainatory sothat minimum assistance only would be required. They choose a text book from an good author to refer fro the semester.
Let me share you what lab bench provide here. You would have oscilloscope, signal generator, power supply, all kinds of test leads, cables, drawings, bench multimeter, schematic diagrams and usesble diagrams in the lab.
You can get all relevant technical information from internet web site like if u want to know how IC is constructed and which gates are involved and how they are connected internally,u will get diagrams from web site called www.alldatasheets.com.I found out that it was so so helpful and very good.

phone service

Obviously we use GSM 900 as u all aware of..and using only in one network provider.
Here, they have different wireless service carriers and different technologies are being used to provide the service.
No government telecom service. All are private companies.I was told that verizon is the largest net work here in this city and they are using so called'CDMA' service.Reception is always strong and have good reputation to public though they are a bit of expensive carrier. let me share you what i got from www.cnet.com here
they said..
Because the United States uses two cell phone technologies, even an unlocked phone does come with some restrictions. It all depends on whether your phone uses GSM or CDMA.

GSM
The first cell phone technology, called GSM, is used by T-Mobile and AT&T. GSM unlocked phones give you the most freedom because they use a small, plastic chip called a SIM card, which typically is located behind the phone's battery. SIM cards are issued by your carrier and contain your identity as a subscriber. When you insert your SIM card into a phone, that handset is activated and assumes your number.

While locked phones will accommodate SIM cards only from a certain carrier, unlocked phones will work with SIMs from any provider. So, if you're a T-Mobile customer and you pop your SIM into an unlocked handset, you'll be able to make calls as normal. But if you put that same SIM into a locked AT&T phone, you'll be able to dial only emergency services.
An unlocked GSM phone is also advantageous to frequent globetrotters. In most countries throughout the world, you can buy a prepaid SIM card from a local carrier and use it in an unlocked handset. That phone will then have a local number for that country, which can save you a lot on international roaming charges. For more information on using a phone abroad, check out our Quick guide to world phones.

CDMA
The second major technology, which is incompatible with GSM, is called CDMA. Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel, and a number of regional carriers such as Alltel and U.S. Cellular use CDMA. Though CDMA phones also can be unlocked, it's not as easy to transfer them to another carrier because they don't use SIM cards. Without the SIM card, you must ask the new carrier to activate the phone for you and assign it to your number. Not only does that involve extra steps on your part, but also there's no guarantee the carrier will oblige you. While Verizon Wireless will now activate any CDMA phone, the remaining CDMA carriers may not activate a handset that they didn't sell you.
CDMA customers also don't get same benefits when traveling abroad. CDMA is used in far fewer countries than GSM, so even if you have an unlocked CDMA phone, chances are greater you won't be able to get service abroad, much less have it activated.

So to sum it all up, unlocked phones can be quite beneficial if you use GSM, the benefits are more limited if you use CDMA. That's why we'll be focusing on GSM for the remainder of this feature.
In brief,i personally found out CDMA is better in reception especially in the basement and buildings. It may not be the same experience as i did for some users.
Phone charges are different between network providers. They sell data service, internet service, text messaging services .All are extra value added services.
You would have to buy minutes per month like 700 minuses per moth for 70 usd.weekends free..late night like 9 pm to 7 am free..etc..
you will have to make an agreement with network provider for a period of time like 1 year of 2 years contract. They offer basic camera phones for free depends on how u make an agreement with them. They can even provide good smart phone with reduced price.Fpr example, now iphone..
if u r going to buy unlock iphone from apple,u will have to pay like 600 bucks..But if u r buying unlimited data and voice service from them u can get iphone with price of 200 for 8 gb and 300 for 16 gb.monthly basic bill will be like i26 for family and for individual it will cost u like 70 bucks a month.
Hope i share something about phone service with my little knowledge..
Enjoy knowing different practices in different places.
best of luck friends

so called internet

This time,i like to share about using internet service about a place where i am living now.I am really crazy about web surfing .You can even say that i am even addicted to itOfcoz i dont have to offend about it.Here u might think internet can be used more cheaply. But in reality,it is free internet access in all over the public access location like mid town like telephone kiorsk , hots pots and wifi public park, public libraries etc..Normally famous coffee shop offer free wifi wireless internet access to his customers.
Mostly here, they were widely using wireless internet .Like one access and all other neighbouring are accessing to that by putting it security passwords given by provider. It cost 19 usd a month only for internet either DSL or similar type of things. They do provide security software sothat their customers can use with no worries. At the same time hackers are so much porpulated to steal your personal informations to use for their own advantages.Virus attacks, spy ware ad wares are pretty common in here.So you better watch out your personal informations.Thats what i learnt from experience. Nowadays, all pcs and laptops are equipped with wireless adaptors sothat they can be used anywhere u go .You can get anti virus software by simply purchasing or finding websites like www.cnet.com and get free version personal application anti virus softwares.
Here they do all kind of processing by online .So it is very very important to have secure connection for u to take part in lively world. You pay bills online, purchase online, all most everythings can be done online. You name it.You can even get appointment from online.Every company or department has their web site to learn about them.
You can look around price of goods u r interested and can find best place to buy.EVERY WEEKEND they have weekly special sales and special days like holiday sales,u can easily find best deal in the internet.Like we said before there are goods and bads. Some people are taking advantages from widely popular web marketing.
If u r going classic way like calling to a place where u have to find informations,u would only get unmanned automatic answering and menus ..etc.
Dont ever think internet is safe to hang out as wish as u can.No way..
Coz cyber cops are keeping an on suspetious activities.I watched one time they even set up an potential bad guys online friends. As you all know that your IP address can easily be found and locate you identify you.People are aware of it and trying to be a good men and women.Coz eyes are on each an individual .Hey friends..you better be good boys..
Let me stop here for this time and hope i can share new things i learnt from place i am now to you all ..and let me hear from you too..let me learn and grow from u too..

did i tell u this?

I am away from home for months and miss place i have brought up.I really miss my home and environment i was raised.Actually i miss everything and friends i made for different reason.
I truely agree with saying that 'everything has its price'.
Did i tell you this friends?
i came to realize that how true friends reacted but i am away from u all becoz of my personal grediness.Iam not sure that i had made a right decision or not.May be it's a life.
I might be regretted even if i didn't decide to do this.
And now i am in new environment and try to make new friends from different culturals.
OFcoz it is interesting and exciting to know more about outside world.
The place i am working now has diverse of people.I mean to say people from all over the world.Good and bad..like u can understand that we all are human being.
I wanted to write this kind of stories in burmese but i still couldn't do that .Sorry friends..Let say it is one of my weakness.
I met guys who love their race and met guys who are united in their own race.I dont want to say that. But atleast you will get some idea from my new environment.Think about human's nature..it would be true for everywhere in the world. So pls dont over estimate becoz of where they live and where they come from.Just pls judge on individuality. That would be more actuate .And some time i was thinking about our race. What do u think friends.Do we really helpful and united if w all are in abroad?.Are u really dare to say we are?
let me say my finding by chance,it is true to say that unity is strength.Especially in abroad.
So wherever you are friends, pls dont think about superiority among ourself. It might be true for you and you alone. But if u really want to build a strong community abroad we must be more helpful and united than ever.
Let me drop my line here and believe that i relay message to friends abroad..
I am proud to know some myanmar friends are helping each other and building community stronger abroad.you guys are doing great jobs and just keep it up there.we will try to do the same thing from wherever we are now.
'Lan phauk te` thu..lan shauk te` thu..lan pyak te` thu..lan thit htwin te` thu..lan haung pyin te` thu..'
whoever you are ..lets try to please twice in our life by helping our own community..

with all my due respect to you all
your friend..

tonight is the night

Today is a remarkable day for me by doing and knowing things i crazy about..
To be specific ,it was 19 of april.
I went to the exam ..and felt comfortable after all.Felt like i had done another steps to go forward. It was a real professional exam BTW.
Then what else.oh..another crazy things like premier league and UFC fight between St.Piere and Serea who is currently holding championship belt. Those are exciting events and results too.
I was neither a good soccer player nor a good fighter. But i did have a chance to taste how was all about sports.I have 3 brother and i am a middle boy.My brothers dragged me to interested in those kind of sports.Eventually they won and i left with craziness in such a fighting sports.
Again soccer.i had to admit that soccer is full of excitement u can never predict before hand.Things are going unexpectedly all the time becoz of that.Ofcoz it is team a work too.
To cut long story short, all my favorite teams and man won in recent fight and games.
I dont know how u see the game .I see the game as a result of preparation of mental power.Actually a mind game.Mind game is everywhere in different form.
We are living in a competative world. You wont be able to grab good place if u r not tough enough.
High will power guys lead the team and low will power guys found to be following .i think it is better to be a lead man unless u don't wanna follow stupid leader.
Some time we have choice ,sometime we don't have choice. So what..
Just to be able to live with it.
Hey i almost forgot to tell this..U know what i noticed in the competitive games like i mentioned?
Its a spirit..it is defined as a champion sprit. It is really different from ordinary average mentality.
Beliving in what u want and wht u r doing ,u r going to get that soon friends..
Sorry for my long and fairly crazy words.
I loved to be a average person anyway
he he he
bye for now and i will try to find how to type myanmar languages in the near future
Pls leave me a comment if u have got a chance to read this post.
wishing you all the best
PS. MU draw against opponents and now title race is tougher in premier league
St.pierre from Canada, won and took over walter weight class UFC fight from Serrea.
I went to thingyan celebration and enjoyed 'SA TU DI THAR' saw many myanmar famlies there and noticed like verybody are in good shapes in whatever or wherever they are doing ..what a moment!!!!
Food were so good.. friends ..dont be jealous ..i ate everything which can be eatten.FULL HOUSE BUDDIEs FULL HOUSE
